Book reviews

Tygran Amalyan and his new book: “Be One Step Ahead». Vivid. Unexpected. First impression — the book is very well packaged. Striking design, clear structure, and well-placed accents that hold your attention. You can feel that the author didn’t just write the text, but consciously constructed the form through which it would be perceived. Second — it’s unexpected. A cardiac surgeon and nutritionist stepping beyond his core expertise to speak about systems, society, and the planet. That kind of breadth of thinking always draws attention. Third — there is a sense of a gap. Not between “reality and dream” — that would be too simple. But between how the author sees the world and what this world could become in his vision. And this gap is the most interesting part of the book. Because any big idea inevitably runs into the question: what exactly is meant to fill the space between vision and implementation? At this point, I see an important intersection. The author speaks a lot about the need for specificity, systems thinking, and management. I agree: without this, no idea can scale. But any system — especially a complex one — doesn’t start at the global level. It starts at the foundational level: the human level. You cannot manage a system if you cannot manage the state of the person within it. And here a practical question arises: “How do we translate abstract concepts — energy, resources, state — into measurable and manageable parameters?” I believe this is where the very “bridge” lies — one that is only outlined in the book so far. Because to think about large systems, and even more so to build them, an idea alone is not enough. You need energy, resilience, and long-term human capacity. And this is where real engineering begins. For me personally, this is the point where my work aligns with the direction raised in the book: creating tools that allow a person to see their state, measure it, and influence it. And in a broader sense, it is precisely such tools that become the mechanisms that gradually reduce the gap between what we imagine and what we are actually able to build. Conclusion This book is worth reading not as a ready-made answer, but as an attempt to set a direction for thinking. And from there, everyone answers the main question for themselves: “Will this remain at the level of an idea — or will it become the beginning of systematic work on oneself and the world?”

Doctor Shagov (Yevgen Shagov)

When I first met Tygran, he struck me as a profound, modern person who was attentive to what was happening in the world and, at the same time, open to dialogue. That is why the publication of the book “Be One Step Ahead" is consistent with his character and entirely natural. This book sounds very modern. Today, thoughts that help us not to get lost in rapid changes but to learn to see more broadly, think more deeply, and move forward with confidence are especially valuable. It seems to me that the author has managed to raise precisely those topics that really concern the modern reader. Having met Tygran, I was impressed by his ability to see the big picture and keenly sense the demands of the times. In my opinion, this is what makes the book particularly interesting. It not only addresses a timely topic but also offers the author's personal perspective, which always adds value. It is a touching personal story, presented briefly but meaningfully. “Be One Step Ahead” is a title that sounds like a call for development, awareness, and inner readiness for something new. I am confident that this book will find its readers and will be useful to those who seek not only to observe changes but to understand them and act proactively.
